Experimenting with Bump Maps
In this example, I used flat 2D textures and normal/bump maps to create the illusion of depth and shadows on flat planar surfaces and a sphere in Cinema 4D. This was something that baffled me for a while but now I can see the potential of saving resources and minimizing polygon count and using a bump map to “fake” it instead. This is a great technique for adding massive detail without sacrificing the performance of the machine.
